Paving Roads!

As a member of the House Transportation subcommittee, one of the issues Rep. Murphey is the most energetic in advancing is that of properly funding the paving of state and county roads.

In addition to advocating for additional road funding on county roads, Murphey supports an overhaul of the Waterloo Road and I-35 interchange as well as the development of an exit ramp at I-35 and Charter Oak Road and the continuation of four lane paving of HWY 74.

Murphey states that officials with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation have indicated that action will soon be taken at the I-35/Waterloo Road interchange.

Murphey has sponsored legislation to return motor vehicle revenues that are currently being used for non-transportation related purposes to be used for transportation with a special focus on growth areas such as South Logan County.

“Almost anyone can tell you what a desperate transportation situation we are facing,” Murphey said. “It is important to stop inappropriately spending what should be road funds for other purposes.

Unfortunately, this year the state legislature passed up the opportunity to create this reform during the 07/08 session making it more important than ever to continue seeking reform.”
